3D Running Gait Analysis
Professional Gait & 3D Analysis to Prevent/Reduce Injuries, Improve Performance & Prepare for a Race
A Comprehensive 3D Runners Gait Analysis + Advice from Medical Professionals
Our running specialist, Dr. Nick Chernay, understands the unique challenges and achievements of competitive and recreational running. With in-depth knowledge of running biomechanics, he will perform a comprehensive assessment and prescribe exercises including strengthening, skill re-training, and gait retraining that are geared toward improving running form and design programs specifically for you.
Initial Assessment Overview
The Performance Running programs located at Balance Solutions Physical Therapy offers a comprehensive 3D runners gait analysis, training strategies, and recovery protocols that will decrease joint load, muscle overuse, and injury. In addition, 3D running analysis can modify your form to enhance performance and improve the efficiency of your stride.
Your initial assessment will include:
Your clinical history will be taken
The ACE Running Readiness Assessment will be performed
A series of objective clinical tests will be performed to quantify your strength, range of motion, alignment and function
State-of-the-art infrared cameras precisely measure the 3D positions of reflective markers that will be attached to your pelvis, hips and legs
The markers will then be calibrated and used to create an exact computer model of you walking or running, and the personalized model is used to accurately calculate your joint motion in 3D
You will walk or run on the treadmill and exactly how you are moving will be quantified in real-time
The 3D movements at your pelvis, hips, knees and ankles will be accurately measured, and your results will then be compared to a database of uninjured controls in real-time. This will enables us to immediately identify any asymmetries and abnormal patterns in your gait
The consistency of marker placement using the Trace 3D analysis system allows for accuracy and precision of running trials captured, measuring your joint angles/biomechanical joint movement, vertical oscillation, and cadence, stride symmetry, kinetic-chain alignment, etc.
The Trace 3D Analysis generates a full gait report, including 3D construction of runner, automated tracking and labeling, graphs, and other biomechanical parameters that allow for specific highly-skilled intervention protocols to correct the biomechanical errors
Analysis findings will lead to improvements involving running efficiency and running capacity, force absorption, force generation, and development of the appropriate training program.
Information from each segment of the assessment collected is used by our expert clinician to identify the root-cause of any injury or pain, and to recommend data-driven rehabilitation and treatment.
Our expert clinician will review your report, using the information to fully understand your biomechanical function.
By combining the results of your gait analysis and musculoskeletal tests, we have all the information we need to understand exactly how you are moving and why your body is moving in this way. This is of course the first step to our data-driven approach to your treatment program.
